Rosco Matter — by Oscar Juárez and Bela Álvarez

Rosco Matter.

ROSCO moves between realities. One moment he's cloud, the next he's wet sand on a beach, a heap of gummy candy, a taut metallic balloon with his own facets still pressed into the foil. His polygonal silhouette, the ears, the snout, the bow tie, is the only thing he carries from one form to the next.

Nimbus lifts him into a sunset cloudscape. Midsummer carves him at the shore. Pool fills a frame with dozens of translucent copies of him. Inflated pressurizes him from the inside out. Voronoi shatters him into a wall of colored fragments. And Cosmo puts him in an astronaut suit, a polygonal space explorer caught mid-abduction by a mechanical arm straight out of a 1950s movie poster.

Each piece pushes the shape into something that should undo it, and each time the silhouette holds. Some materials keep his hard edges easily; others fight them, and those are usually the images we like most.

The series is ongoing, and each piece is available as a print.
